7th Armored Squadron 1st Air Cavalry Blackhawks

I have talked about this individual with some of you many times. His name is Richard Allen Rathburn. Some of you in A-Troop and C-Troop may have had him in a class in AIT at Fort Eustis Virginia. I did and we served together in B-Troop where he was killed by friendly fire on Friday, March 16, 1968. I’m posting a picture of him, maybe it will help to remember him.  His mother is now 90 years old and his father is 93. They have been married 69 years now, GOD BLESS them.

This is a photo of my son, Richard Allen Rathburn, during basic training.
Richard (Ricky to all his family and friends) was a 1967 graduate of DeRidder High School. He enlisted in the army soon after graduation. He always wanted to be a helicopter pilot, but his vision made that impossible. Ricky's basic training was at Fort Polk, Louisiana; advanced training on helicopter maintinence was at Fort Eustis, Virginia.

Richard was assigned to B Troop, 7/1th Air Cavalry. He was a crew chief who also flew at times.
In high school, "Ricky" was a member of the high school football team. He enjoyed hunting and trapping (we live in the country) and throughly enjoyed the outdoors. Posted by: Mabelle Rathburn
